Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Thomas Menino will be joining New Boston Fund on June 30th at Olmsted Green to celebrate the completion of Phase II of the Olmsted Green rental housing units as well as the millions of dollars in funding provided by the city and state to begin Phase III of rental housing and the continuation of construction jobs this project will offer.
Located at the site of the former Boston State Hospital in Dorchester, Olmsted Green is one of the largest developments in the City of Boston in more than 50 years and is one of only 21 construction projects happening right now in the City. This urban residential community is transforming 42 acres of underutilized land in the heart of Boston, featuring significant new housing and job opportunities. When completed, the development will include up to 287 market rate town homes, 151 affordable rentals, a 123-bed skilled nursing facility and 59 units of affordable senior housing.
To date, Olmsted Green has provided more than 200,000 hours of construction work with 58.6% of the workforce on site being people of color, one of the highest rates of minority employment for construction projects in the city. Furthermore, 30% percent of the contracts have gone to minority-owned businesses.
